Elliott Neese - Deadliest Catch - Cited Possession Undersized Crab

As some of you Deadliest Catch Fans may already know. I am not an Elliott Neese fan.

I've been watching the ships on the Marine Traffic and knew the Ramblin' Rose was still fishing or at least pulling in and out of port at Dutch Harbor throughout December.  I figured they were having a really bad season, maybe fishing for Blue King Crab or both. Most of the other crews have been home quite some time now.

This was released by the Alaska State Troopers on December 18, 2011

Location: Dutch Harbor

Case number: 11-124446 Type: Possession of Undersize Blue King Crab
Text: On 12/15/11, Elliot Neese, age 29 of Homer was cited by Dutch Harbor Wildlife Troopers for Possession of Undersize Blue King Crab onboard the FV Ramblin Rose. The undersize Blue King Crab amounted to 5.5% and was seized and forfeited to the state. Neese was given an arraignment date of January 4th 2012 in the Unalaska District Court.

Of course there was the disclaimer at the top of the report that says these are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

If he has an arraignment date does that mean he's sitting in jail until January 4th? I've never been arrested but don't you have to go to arraignment to see if you get bail? That seems like an awful long time to wait for an arraignment. What happened to the right to a speedy trial?  I noticed a lot of the other reports say the fisherman were given bailable citations usually $200-250. Elliott's doesn't say that.

I checked his Twitter account and he tweeted on Dec 16th he was in Anchorage and almost home. So I guess he's not sitting in jail. I really hate to see anyone go to jail, but dang that would have been funny. LOL

Well I guess they were fishing for Blue King Crab. My first thought was who turned them in? The processor or one of the guys on board? Then I thought do the Troopers just show up and double check what's going on like a random inspection?

You know me I got to looking. I saw one report from an Alaskan TV Station that said he was boarded while delivering for a routine inspection. The trooper reportedly said that that's the most undersized crab he's ever seen in an off load. The crab were seized and forfeited to the state. Hum, this happened on the 15th, he's headed home on the 16th, his crab was seized. I would say that's a bad season. I wonder how his Red King Crab season went.

I haven't found yet what the consequences are for having undersized crab, I know from looking up the drug stuff they can loose the vessel. I'll keep looking and if I find it I'll update this.

In 2008, Richard Quasnick, Captain of the Maverick was fined $1500 for having undersized Bairdi Crab because it was such a small amount he was allowed to continue fishing. In 1998 he was fined $15,000 for having undersized King Crab. Half of that amount was suspended.

I also found this little tid bit from the State Troopers site.

Location: Homer
Case number: 11-83212
Type: Violation of Protective Order (Domestic Violence)
Text: On August 21, 2011 at about 2127 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Elliott Neese, 29 of Homer, on a traffic stop. Investigation revealed Neese was in violation of a protective order issued in the state of Washington, prohibiting contact with the petitioner; the petitioner was the passenger in the stop. Neese was arrested and remanded to Homer Jail.

It amazes me Elliott thinks he's such a great Captain. Remember his first season when he didn't even know how much crab his tanks would hold? He will never stand up to Captain Andy, Johnathan, Keith, Sig, Bill, or Scott in my mind. That is one Captain that could quit fishing and I wouldn't care at all. Yes, I'm being nice today. LOL

Thanks for the tip Terri. Great story.

  2. Update: Possession of under sized crab is a misdemeanor. Elliot goes back to court March 8 for the undersized crab possession.

  3. According to the court records Elliott plead guilty after arraignment. He was fined $9000.00 had a $10.00 surcharge. He paid the $10.00 surcharge. The $9000.00 was suspended/adjusted down to $6000.00 which is still owed at the time of this writing. He is on probation for one year starting March 15, 2012 for 365 days and cannot commit any fishing violations.

  5. I love it! He is a punk and he is making the show suck. Yes, he'll never be anywhere near the ranks of the other captains and it's a bummer that idiots like this are on when Cap'n Phil passed away. Good he is being exposed for the jerk that he is.

    1. Yes, this wigger is certainly a moron. What's alarming is his crew plays Russian roulette every time that they decide to go out to sea with this idiot. It's not funny anymore, just sad.

  6. elliott neese is a total douchebag. the only thing he can beat in life is women and his nipple d*ck. he should toss himself overboard and do the world a favor.

  7. Wow. Most of these guys are punks. Why don't you look into the ones you "love" before pointing fingers and throwing stones. You might be really surprised to see what you find out about the Hilstrand brothers (check some police reports), Sig, Phil's sons and many of the crew members. To be fisherman up there you have to be a bit more insane, unhinged, and tougher than normal to do what they do. These guys all live on the edge - in their personal and private lives.

  8. He couldnt find crab sittin on a toilet seat at a titty bar.make a bet with a rival then stalk that rival and sets his gear on top of his cause he notices him holding his position for awhile.wtf?then instead of using his brain and gettin on some crab he grinds the crew out while he sits in that chair high and dry.his mates dont respect him and neither do most people watching.to be a fisherman yeah you may have some vices or be slightly unhinged as some of the great ones, you have to catch fish.this will be his last season im sure and instead of bettin rivals he should just pay his child support.

  9. Hes a tool.he couldnt catch crabs off a toilet seat at a titty bar.grinds his crew while he sits high and dry.stalks a rivals position after betting him that he could hit quota faster.this will no doubt be his last season and he should catch up on child support before betting a losers bet.he will never be among the greats because noone respects him.hes dirt

  10. If you idiots would remember correctly, he was cited, but the crew is responsible for paying the fine. How can he tell they're putting under sized crab in the tank when he is high up in the wheelhouse? Unless he told them to do it, which I highly doubt. No captain would ever risk that.

    1. Actually he can claim the crew are responsible and should pay the fine, but luckily he will be the one going to jail if they don't. He (Not the vessel) was fined and it's on him to pay it.

    2. It comes out of the crews wages.

  11. To anonymous, Elliot is the Capt of the boat. I use the term Capt in his respects VERY LOOSELY.He oversees everything. He should know EVERYTHING, including what goes in the tanks. No way in hell he should have his job for the upcoming season. His crew tells me all I need to know, there is zero respect for him and for good reason.

  12. I think Elliott is the Captain everyone loves to hate. Although this makes for good TV, it doesn't pay the cost to run a boat.
I am sure they get paid for this show, but I am sure it is not even close to what they make fishing. The boat owners will tire of this & find a new captain. TV isn't worth it to them I am sure. His crew will leave because they aren't making any money either. It will be easy to find another captain for this boat.

  14. I don't understand all the negative comments. How can you say rude stuff when you couldn't do their jobs. U have no idea the pressure and stress these men go through out there. Just because you read something in the tabloids everyone jumps to a guilty verdict. Don't you realize the show is chopped up so much. None of us really know or understand what these men go through. So stop casting judgement on others when you don't know the facts. The fact is you all couldn't be a fisherman!

  15. Hello! This is not ment to attack, but Anonymous 6/19/12 what's up with using the c-word? I can't believe Ms. Oh Rant let that one slip by. I know if it was used to describe her Time Bandit boys you would have gotten a scolding. I get that Elliott has dug his own grave here, but other 4 letter adjectives could still get the point across without being as vulgar. Just saying.....

  17. I know what you mean. My day is off if I don't start with soda!!!!LOL

  18. Yes, It sounds as though Elliott has been separated from his family because of choices he made. Hopefully, he will learn from his mistakes and mature enough to be successful in a career more fitting for him.

  19. If one (or more) of his crew doesn't like him, what's to stop that crewman from putting undersized crab into the hold, then report Elliott to the authorities so gets in trouble? The captain can't be in two places at once so it would be difficult to notice any crew members doing this. The fact that he's willing to take responsibility for the actions of his crew should say something redeeming about him, not something bad. He rubs me the wrong way too, but a TV show isn't enough to base your judgment on. He obviously cares about his children too as it's why he's out there risking everything. This also says something redeeming about him. Can we cut him some slack already, or is hate all we really care about here? The comments seem to point to the latter which is truly sad when you think about it.

  20. Give Elliott a break, if anyone knew what they were talking about, he made his quota and he's doing a job NONE of you could do, be it in the wheelhouse or the deck, I agree with another poster, all those you "love" have had their share of crap, DC likes to have a villian, it was Keith for awhile and now they've moved onto Elliott. If you realize, they film over the entire season the splice together things that didn't happen in the order they like to portray them...and as far as getting arrested because Val was in the car...unless he had her at gunpoint...she's just as guilty if not more so for being with him..she took out the damned order of protection.

    1. He may have made his quota, but as far as doing his job... Well the fact that Bob Perky is now the Captain of the Ramblin' Rose says a lot right there.

I don't have to be able to do Elliott's job to like him and I am fully away of the fact that DC cuts and splices things together.

I haven't liked Elliott before he even stepped foot on the show. I got a dose of his nastiness watching CatchCon, which wasn't edited.

As far as Val being in the car I believe you are the only one to say it was Val in the car. I specifically didn't say it was Val because I don't know it was her. With all of Elliott's bar fights, a number of people could have had a restraining order against him, and later made up and got in the car with him. But I do agree whoever was in the car with just as guilty.

  21. It doesn't say alot that Bob Perky is now the captain of the Rambling Rose. If you bothered to check your facts, you'd know that Elliot is in the process of buying his own boat. That should say alot.

    1. My facts are checked. Elliott is no longer on the Ramblin' Rose. Captain Bob Perky is. I don't care why he's gone. Just glad he is.

  22. You cared enough to state that he's gone and you cared enough to imply that Elliot was fired by stating that he did not do his job and that he was replaced by Bob. Fact is, he wasn't fired he's buying his own boat.

If facts were checked, why imply something that isn't true.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was not trying to imply he was fired. I was responding to the previous comments about the show being spliced together hence the ...

As far as Captain Bob being Captain saying a lot. It says a lot to me. It says Elliott's GONE! YEA! So much for Elliott putting reality back in reality TV.

I think most of us here are aware Elliott was trying to buy his own boat. He stated as much on ATC. So no implication here he was fired just that he's gone.

Don't get me wrong. I don't wish him ill will. I hope he buys his boat and does well for himself. I just don't want to watch him do it.

  24. I like all the captains on Deadliest Catch with one exception. I have a nickname for him “idiot Elliott”
