The Associate - The Movie

This comedy stars Whoopi Goldberg, Diane Wiest and Tim Daly.  It's about a women trying to make it on Wall Street amongst all the men. This was a very entertaining movie, but of course with a cast like this its hard to go wrong. Gotta love Whoopi!

I give this one three and a half stars.

The New Daughter - The Movie

The New Daughter is a supernatural thriller. It's about a man whose wife runs off with another man and leaves him with the two kids. Kevin Costner plays the dad in this movie.

The movie stars: Kevin Costner, Samantha Mathis, Ivana Baquero and Gattlin Griffith

Kevin Costner is a writer so he works from home. He moves the kids to a new house in South Carolina and guess what? It has a haunted mound in the back yard. The daughter becomes possessed and the father is on a mission to save her.

I didn't like way the movie ended.

I give this one a three star.

The Core - The Movie

The end of the world is near. This flick seemed appropriate to watch with the rapture and all yesterday that never happened. Or maybe it did happen and I got left behind. In either case I've decided to have a movie-thon today and see if I can clean out some of my Netflix queue.

The Core is an end of the world disaster type of movie. Usually my kind of movie. I like Deadly Disaster movies.

This one stars Hilary Swank, Aaron Eckhart, Stanley Tucci, Bruce Greenwood, Delroy Lindo, DJ Qualls, Richard Jenkins, Alfre Woodard, and Tcheky Karyo.

Black Swan - The Movie

This is a movie about a ballerina gone wrong.

It reminds me somewhat of the movie Show Girls, which I really liked. Maybe its the dancer/competitor in me that enjoys the competition in these movies. In this movie the dancers compete for the lead position in Swan Lake in a New York City Ballet. The difference between this movie and Show Girls is the dancers in this movie are in ballerina leotards instead of half naked.

Unstoppable - The Movie

This movie is about a runaway unmanned train, carrying lethal chemicals.

It is what you would expect of a runaway train movie. The usual stop the train before it crashes and a lot of people die story line.

It stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Kind of hard to go wrong with Denzel. Love him!

I gave this one a four star,  I love a good action flick.

Conviction

I gave this one a three star.

Inspired by a true story about a high school drop out (Hillary Swank) who's brother is convicted of murder. She believes he is innocent, puts herself through law school and with the help of Barry Scheck and the Innocence Project gets him out of jail.

Right At Your Door

This is an interesting movie about a couple living in Los Angeles when a dirty bomb goes off. The movie stars Mary McCormack and Rory Cochrane.

I don't want to say too much and give the story away.

Seems to be a low budget film, but the plot was quite interesting. Makes you ask yourself what would I do in this situation. How far do you go to help family, neighbors or strangers in a crisis?

Sybil

This is an older flick from 1976. Maybe some of you remember it. I had watched this many years ago, but decided to watch it again. It is based on a true story about a woman named Sybil Dorsett who had multiple personality disorder with at least 16 different personalities (now known as DID). Sally Field plays Sybil and Joanne Woodard her psychiatrist and some of you may recognize Natasha Ryan (Hope) from Days of Our Lives who plays little Sybil.

Legends of The Fall

An excellent movie about family, war, love and a bear.  Starring Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Ormond, Aidan Quinn, and Henry Thomas.

Somewhat of a tearjerker, but still very good movie. Based on the book.

Definitely a 5 star movie.

Mission Of The Shark: Saga of The USS Indianapolis

A true wartime drama based on actual events starring Stacy Keach, Richard Thomas and David Caruso.

The USS Indianapolis is the ship that delivered the atomic bomb that would be used to destroy Hiroshima. After completing this mission, the ship is hit with a Japanese torpedo.  Due to the secrecy of the mission their rescue is delayed for five days and the shipwrecked sailors have to fight to stay alive in the Philippine Sea.

This movie was filmed in 1991. At first glance I thought boy these guys look young, then I realized 1991 was almost twenty years ago not ten. LOL

I give this one 3.5 stars.

Temple Grandin - Awesome Movie

This is a movie based on a real life person. Temple Grandin is a woman with Autism - Aspergers who has a photographic memory and appears to eat only yogurt, pudding and green Jell-O.

This is an incredible story. Temple Grandin started college in the late ‘60’s and not only had to deal with her Autism - Aspergers but being discriminated against because she is a woman. Despite all this she accomplishes amazing things. Just to name a few without giving away too much about the movie. She receives her Doctoral degree, invents the hug machine, is published in many magazines, and has published a couple of books.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

I probably would not have picked this movie to watch had someone not recommended it to me, just because I don't usually care for musicals. This was evidently written during the 2008 writers strike and originally debuted as an online mini series.

It is a short 42 minute quirky musical starring Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer and Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible. Both fall in love with the same girl played by Felicia Day.

This movie mad me laugh out loud several times. If you need a good laugh this will do it.

I give it 5 stars just for the laughing.

And Then There Was One

This is a movie based on a real life story. Stars Amy Madigan and Dennis Boutsikaris. It is about a couple who try for years to get pregnant. They finally have a baby girl and soon discover she has AIDS. Needless to say this is a heartbreaking story.

Since I love movies based on real life I give it a 4 star.

Solitary Man - The Movie

Just watched Solitary Man. I thought it would be pretty good.

It starred Michael Douglas, Susan Sarandon, Danny Devito, and Mary Louise Parker.

It was about a man going through a mid life crises that looses everything.  These are great actors, I guess I just expected a better story.

On a scale of 1-5.  I gave it a 3.
