Peter Falk had advanced dementia and Alzheimer's Disease in the recent years.
Columbo is one of the first police shows I remember watching. He was a detective that always wore a raincoat, raining or not. He usually had a cigar in his hand or in his mouth usually not lit, but it seemed like it was always half smoked. And he drove around in a beat up little car (Peugeot). He always acted like he didn't really know what was going on, but then solved the crime.
He apparently acted for fifty years, but he will always be Columbo to me.
