Florida News Headlines - What The Heck?

It's not even hot yet.

Disabled daughter run over, killed - A 77 year old father was driving his truck and it appears he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and ran over his daughter who was in a wheelchair and her caregiver. The daughter died and the caregiver is in critical but stable condition. How sad.

Women attacked by bobcat - A woman and her dog were attacked by a bobcat, the husband beat the bobcat with a stick to stop the attack. Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said the bobcat must be sick as this is not usual behavior. Duh!! Beware in Grant, it's still on the loose.

Stupid People Doing Stupid Things !

I guess it's good I haven't gotten to know most of my neighbors, because they keep getting hauled away.

One of my neighbors, we'll call him Mr B is a very sweet 75 year old man. He starts his day off with a cup of coffee and the rest of the day he drinks beer, until the evening when he often switches to Vodka. Needless to say I try and chat with him in the mornings. Mr B usually spends his day making rounds to various neighbors to say hi and see if he can do anything to help them. He really is a sweetie with a heart of gold, even if he would probably bleed beer from all the drinking. My mom was here for Christmas one year and questioned how old Mr B was, when I told her she responded "the alcohol sure has preserved him well". Which was a good point since most alcoholics look way older than they are, and Mr. B looks younger than he is.

Something Thinks Its Moving In !

For the last five years or so, I've been trying to grow my own vegetables, unsuccessfully, for one reason or another. This year I started hand pollinating and actually have about twenty green peppers on 7 or 8 plants. I'm so excited.

I go outside last night to empty the litter box; I'm hosing it out and think I'd better water the green peppers, still no rain. I aim the hose at the plant pot and notice the pot is half empty. All of the plants on the left hand side of the pot were broken off, but the broken off pieces were missing. Very odd, I said a few curse words and went back in the house.

Rahm Emanuel To Resign

I just heard Rahm Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff, is going to resign so that he can be Mayor of Chicago.

I also heard he is responsible for helping to get the Frank-Dodd Act and Health Care Reform Bill through.

Well if this is the case I say good riddance!

Thanks to the Frank-Dodd Act it now costs ten times more for Forex Trading.

The new "Health Care Reform", now means people who couldn't afford health insurance still won't be able to because they'll be too busy paying fines.

So again, I say good riddance. This kind of help I don't need!

Tony Curtis Died

How sad. Tony Curtis has died at the age of 85. Tony evidently died of a heart attack at home on Wednesday.

I was just watching Jamie Lee on The Nate Berkus Show. Best wishes to all his family.

I Wish the Government Would Stop Trying To Help!

They just keep making things worse with all their helping.

I really wish the government would keep their hands out of my pockets! They have enough of my money, they don't know how to spend it and now they want control over how I spend what little they leave me.

Last year I moved my Forex account to Europe because of the new rules imposed by the US such as no hedging, and FIFO (First in First Out) rules.

Ahmadinejad Interview With Larry King - My Take

This guy is just creepy, weird, psycho. It's very scary he is President of anything.

He claims the US has over sanctioned Iran, that they have been under sanction for more than thirty years. He says they have been under sanctions for so long it doesn't matter anymore. They've become a stronger country because of the sanctions. Okay, he probably has a point about that. But if the sanctions don't matter why would he care if they are over sanctioned.

The Digital Age and the Death of Books Continues

On Monday I wrote an article wondering if the digital age would be the death of books.

Just now I turned on CNN and they were talking to Stephen King. They asked him if  he thought books would go all digital. It sounded like he thinks they will but he didn't want to say it out loud. He did say the futures going to be what the futures going to be. He also said that if you drop a book in the toilet you can fish it out, dry it off and read it. If you drop your Kindle in the toilet your done. I hadn't thought of that one.

Is The Digital Age Going To Be The Death Of Book Stores & Libraries?

I just read an article about Barnes and Noble. The article said the companies market value dropped under a billion dollars, due to being squeezed by Amazon and Walmart.  The share holders are fighting, they are talking of selling the store, all the sounds of a company going down.

All this made me wonder once again with all the new digital items; Kindles, Readers, IPods and such, if some day in the near future there will be no new books.

I guess it would be good for the trees, I get that they are lighter to carry around. You can press a few buttons and instantly have a new or old book to read. I imagine at some point there will be a digital copy of every book ever printed. I get it. I'm a computer geek.

But I love my books. I look at the walls of my house, lined with bookshelves, loaded with books. They look good. I don't know what it is, I love the look of floor to ceiling books. I love book stores and libraries. Maybe it's just another geek thing. But I love my books.

I don't own a reading device. I've considered getting one from time to time. I think if I'm going to pay say $10 for a book, I want the book. Kind of like a back up copy. Its the same with music downloads.  I could probably count on one hand the number of music downloads I've paid for. I buy the CD. Maybe its just that I want to see what I'm paying for, to know that I got something for my money.

If there are no books, why would you need bookstores and libraries? You just need a website. There will be nearly no human interaction. Okay that could be a whole other topic. LOL

What do you think? Hardback or reading device? What's your preference? Do you think books will soon be a thing of the past?

What is OpenID ?

OpenID is rapidly gaining use on the web, over 50,000 websites accept OpenID for login. You probably have one or more OpenID's and didn't even know it.

OpenID's allow you to securely log into a new site with an existing username from another site so you don't have to keep setting up new accounts every time you find a new site.

Several large organizations either issue or accept OpenIDs, including Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Microsoft, AOL, MySpace, Sears, Universal Music Group, France Telecom, Novell, Sun, Telecom Italia, and many more.

This is how you sign in for some of the more popular accounts.

Blogger =  blogname.blogspot.com

Google = http://www.google.com/profiles/username or Go to your google profile, look at the bottom of the page. It says your profile url is :

Yahoo = https://me.yahoo.com/username

Myspace = www.myspace.com/username

Wordpress =  username.wordpress.com

AOL/AIM = openid.aol.com/screenname.

Flicker = Sign in with your Yahoo button or use your photostream url.

Orange =  Sign in with Orange button or enter orange.fr

LiveJournal = username.livejournal.com

For those looking for Facebook, it appears they accept OpenID, but I do not see where they are issuing one yet. If they start I will update this.

You may choose to associate information with your OpenID that can be shared with the websites you visit, such as a name or email address. With OpenID, you control how much of that information is shared with the websites you visit. Your password is only given to your identity provider, and that provider then confirms your identity to the websites you visit. Other than your provider, no website ever sees your password, so you don’t need to worry about an unscrupulous or insecure website compromising your identity.

The Atlanta Child Killer Still Claims He's Innocent Over Thirty Years Later

Ok, so I go to watch Larry King, and it's Soledad O'brien instead of Larry King, which is okay I like Soledad.

She's interviewing Wayne Williams. Do ya'll remember him? He was arrested many years ago for killing young black kids in Atlanta from 1979-1981. I was a young kid at the time myself, not a black child, but I lived in a nearby state and I remember being scared, because some crazy person was killing kids.

He was convicted only of two of the adult murders, but suspected of  23-30 others. Most of the kids killed were between the ages of 12-14, but was one as young as 9, and 4 were over 21. Wayne Williams was a 23 year old black man himself. I found that kind of odd.

He claimed then and evidently is still trying to say he is innocent.

Now:
  1. He flunked 3 polygraphs, which granted aren't admissible, but still come on!
  2. Someone that saw him helped a sketch artist draw a picture that looked like him.
  3. They found dog hair on one of the boys that was consistent with Williams family dog.
  4. They found fibers consistent with his father's car which he drove on another body.
  5. They found rare carpet fibers consistent with the carpet in his house, he was still living with Mommy and Daddy evidently.
  6. When the police searched his home, they took a piece of a blanket that was under his bed, this matched fibers on another body. When the police went back for the blanket it was gone.
  7. His alibi for one of the murders was his mother, I don't know if he was alibied for any of the others.
Of course they didn't have the DNA back then that they have now, but they must not have had any to prove he was innocent, cause they could have retested it now.  There was one thing tested that proved there was a 98% possibility it was him. That didn't help his case.

Now, my question is and I really wish Soledad had asked him this. Why did the murders stop when he was arrested?  I don't believe someone that sick could have just stopped killing because the police caught the wrong man  What? Oh they arrested Wayne, so I'll stop killing now and they won't come looking for me.

I don't think so. I think they got the right man.

Doctor Found In Fireplace, Was She Crazy Or What?

CNN is reporting that California Doctor Jacquelyn Kotarac who was reported missing Thursday was found dead in her boyfriends chimney.

Apparently she had tried to get in his house several days earlier. The report says she was last seen Wednesday night about 10:15 pm trying to force her way in the house. The "boyfriend" left the house to avoid confrontation and stayed somewhere else. She didn't arrive at work on Thursday, so they started looking for her. Found her car, purse, phone, money and everything at the boyfriends house with no sign of her.

I don't know if I would call this guy a boyfriend sounds like she was stalking him.

Thursday night the boyfriend stayed at home before leaving to Europe. A neighbor said they could smell something Friday night, and someone down the street thought they heard someone calling for help but ignored the calls because they thought it was kids.

What they wouldn't go help a kid? That's messed up!

They said a friend stopped by to feed the fish and found the body. It took them five hours to get her out of the Chimney.

There was a ladder next to the house, so they think she climbed to the roof and went down the chimney feet first.

Boy, I guess I'm glad I never met the guy that made me that crazy. It reminds me of the astronaut woman, these have got to be smart women, a doctor, an astronaut I mean really. What happens to them? I can't imagine doing something like that. I don't think I want to meet Mr. Right if he makes you that crazy. It's not like these women needed a man to support them or something. Crazy! I don't get it.

On the other hand, the boyfriends trip to Europe is suspicious. Could have been a pretty good plan. Guess we'll find out later.

Bodies Found At Mexican Ranch

Reuters is reporting that 72 unburied bodies were found at a Mexican ranch near the border.

58 men and 14 women were found after a firefight with drug hit men. A Marine and 3 gunman were killed.

A wounded man led the navy to the ranch after calling the marines for help at a checkpoint. Marines seized assault rifles, bullets, uniforms and vehicles including one with false army registration plates. hmmmm

Okay, so I'm not visiting Mexico anytime soon.

Then I remembered he won’t find out until he gets out of the house.
